What to do if you have uncovered a violation

If you uncover a violation of the Academic Integrity Policy, you are required to report the violation using the Online Notification System available through Campus Connect. At your discretion, you may also choose to issue a sanction in connection with that violation.

The Online Notification System may be accessed as follows: Once logged in to Campus Connect, select "For Instructors" and then "Academic Integrity Violations" on the left-side panel, and follow the prompts.

Choice of sanction

Possible sanctions include, but are not limited to, assigning a rewrite, issuing a reduced or failing score on an assignment, or failing the student in the course. As part of the report generated by the Online Notification System, the required written notification will automatically be sent to inform the student that a violation has occurred, the nature of that violation and what, if any, sanction has resulted from it.

Filing a violation notice

Please login to Campus Connect and click on the "For Instructors" link on the left side column. There will be an "Academic Integrity Violation" link on the list. If you click on that link, you will find instructions for the rest of the filing process.

You may wish to prepare in advance a written description of the violation and sanction that you intend to impose. The online notification system will ask you to describe to the student the nature of the violation and then enter the sanction you have chosen to impose. You simply enter the text in the box provided as if you were speaking to the student and then the program will generate a letter to the student using your language and also including additional standard text that the student should know (such as the right to appeal, names of ombudspersons, and other information.).

You will then be able to review the letter and make any changes you wish; once you have submitted the letter, it will  be send to the student and the board.

Please prepare (electronic) copies of all materials involved in the violation and submit them to Molly Schafer (mschafe4@depaul.edu). You will be reminded to submit this documentation to the board.
